In 1886, the visionary scholar Maulana Obaidul Haq (R.) founded Sitakund Aliya (Kamil) Madrasah. Born in Barbakund, Sitakund on 8 June 1856, he returned from studies in Kolkata and dedicated his life to Islamic education.

The institution was burned down twice by communal forces in its early years, but Maulana Obaidul Haq persevered. He rebuilt it each time, eventually establishing a permanent structure on the western bank of the historic Laldigi pond.

The Madrasah received permanent government recognition in 1967 and Kamil-level approval in 1986 — exactly 100 years after its founding.
